In my second post for my segment Secrets to a Classic Wardrobe, I will discuss the closet staple; the perfect blazer. I’ve always loved the way the perfect blazer can pull together an otherwise ho-hum outfit. It can make a low-key casual outfit infinitely more stylish. The perfect blazer is also a great piece to help you transition into fall, you can easily wear a favorite summer outfit and throw on a blazer to get wear out of it as you move into fall. I got my first blazer in New York City, shortly after graduating from college, it was a fitted black corduroy blazer. Now corduroy is a casual fabric, but in the right color it can look more formal. I must mention that I am talking about a blazer and not a jacket that is part of a 2 piece suit, which can often be worn as a blazer. I will often wear the jacket of a 2 piece suit without the suit skirt or pants, but I have about 5 stand alone blazers in cotton and wool to suit my mood and any outfit.
I’m starting a new segment on my blog called “Secrets to a Classic Wardrobe”, where I will discuss staple, classic wardrobe pieces that you will have for years. One major wardrobe classic are black pumps. I got my first high-end pair of simple black pumps in 2007 and I still have them. I’m wearing them here:
How do you keep your high-end items looking great for years? Check out my How to Recondition a Leather Handbag for tips, these tips can be used for anything leather from shoes, belts and handbags. Here are my tips for finding the right black pumps:
Here is my steps step-by-step guide on how to recondition a leather handbag or you can check out the video below (all links to my favorite products are listed below the video):
- Clean any dirt or dust of the bag, I like this Leather Shampoo from Leather Spa.
- Apply leather conditioner (I like the one from Leather Spa) to the bag with a soft cloth or a paper towel, as I used in the video. Be sure to get every nook and cranny including the inside (if it’s leather that is).
- Let it dry for a few minutes then use a soft horse hair brush and/or clean soft cloth to buff the handbag and add shine.
I’m starting a new segment of my blog and Youtube Channel, “Buy Less, Buy Better“. Please note that this is not another “Style for Less” blog. I’ve always gravitated towards a more classic style, which honestly makes it easier to buy less. I like to keep things classic, which can be a bit boring to some, but I like the ease of it and that you always look put together. It’s taken me a while to hone my style. I tried many fashion fads in my teens and 20’s but unfortunately my body is not made for many trends. At this point of my life I feel like I’ve found my sweet-spot as far as my style goes. I have a more athletic, hourglass figure; I have curvier thighs, a butt and boobs. I always feel best when I show off my curves rather than hide them. If I wear pants, I like skinny jeans. If I wear a shirt or dress, I like ones that shows my waist, etc. Most trendy clothes, IMHO are designed for skinny little things without many curves. If you know your body, trying to force yourself in to the latest trend can be a disaster…and then you toss out the cheap, trendy clothes and move on the the next trend.… Read Full Post
