Gluten Free Pastry How-To with ReMixed Bakery

This week I have Dana Lieverman from Remixed Bakery here in Los Angeles on my YouTube show.  I first found out about Dana and her wonderful treats on Instagram, well I can say that her treats taste as good as they look. We highlight some of her amazing treats and she gives you some great tips on how to make your own pastries and how to roll out dough and things like that. I’m not an expert at making pastries I wanted to bring her in to give you guys a few tips and tricks.

Koi Restaurant- Tons of Gluten Free Options

I’m so excited to have an interview with Executive Chef Rob Lucas and Pastry Chef Sarah Variel from Koi Restaurant for you this week. They have some amazing gluten-free items on the menu.  The photos look so good right?!?! You will definitely eat like a king or queen at Koi. Some of my favorite gluten free items on the menu are Crispy Rice with Spicy Tuna, Molten Chocolate Cake and the new Cheesecake. Can you tell I like dessert?

Highlights from the Gluten Free Expo

This past weekend I went to the Celiac Disease Foundation’s Gluten Free Expo in Pasadena, California. I found some really great products that I wanted to let you know about.  I spoke with Steven Rice of Authentic Foods to talk about his gluten free flours, Ashley Khteian from Dare Foods to find out about the new gluten free Breton Crackers, as well as Evan from Cheerios….have you hear they are going fully gluten free?  You can read more below OR watch  Gluten Free Avenger Episode 13:  Highlights from the Gluten Free Expo– by clicking below or using this link in your browser- http://youtu.be/WxpajWSFDcA

I spoke with Steven Rice of Authentic Food and he has made a gluten-free flour that he says mimics wheat flour. He used plant fibers instead of the gums usually used (xanthan gum, guar gum, etc) to bind gluten-free flours and according to him it makes for a very wheat-like flour.  This flour has a lot more fiber than regular gluten-free flours too. I have a sample of his cake flour that I’m going to be using for some cookies, so I will definitely let you know. Walkers Shortbread Interview from the Natural Products Expo West

I don’t know about you, but for me Walkers Shortbread is synonymous with shortbread cookies. My mom would occasionally have them in the pantry and what a treat.  I was very sad that I couldn’t eat them anymore when I became gluten-free. Well not anymore….in my latest interview from the Natural Products Expo West, I interview Lisa Sherman of Walkers Shortbread and she introduces me to their new gluten-free shortbread cookies, which come in three different flavors. I’m a classic girl so I love the Classic Shortbread cookie but the Ginger Lemon and Chocolate Chip Shortbread are also amazing. Van’s Foods Interview from the Natural Products Expo West

I’ve been a big fan of Van’s Foods products for years, so I was so excited to meet and interview with Sarah Nicholson of Van’s Foods at last month’s Natural Products Expo West. I’ll never forget the time that a guy at a whole foods store made fun of me for buying the dairy free and gluten-free waffles. I like that many of the products have whole grains and are nutritious as well as a great treat. I’m certainly going to be getting some of the snack bars to keep in my purse.
